My name is Leila. I pronounce it Leela (like Sheila). Though many people call me Layla (like the song). This does not bother me. So if you call me Layla instead of Leela, I’ll correct you a couple of times; if you continue, I’ll just let you call me Layla. It’s cool.
I consider myself a voracious reader and a lifelong learner. I have a couple of fancy degrees that I earned in my 20’s and that I no longer use on a daily basis. I don’t believe that they are without value to me, despite my current disinterest in microeconomics and constitutional theory. I think that every career deviation and interest realignment has played a role in creating the person that I am today.
I am a graphic designer. In May 2008, I left a successful career in corporate law to find something that was missing. I wasn’t engaged or interested or invested in what I was doing on a daily basis. What I found was graphic design. I have completed certificate programs in Design Communication Arts and Advanced Print Design at UCLA Extension and UX Design at General Assembly.
I love what I do. I bring passion and enthusiasm to the graphic design process. I have worked onsite in the marketing departments for Variety and Film Independent, creating ads, event branding, print collateral, social media campaigns and other marketing materials. I am currently the design lead for a tech startup called Storitz, a publication editor and designer for Film Independent and a designer for clients including Mount Saint Mary’s University, Red Bull and Union + Webster.
I am a project manager. Both of my careers have had a focus on client service, time management and project management. I can take a project from conception through creation and production. I am engaged and thorough and will make sure that nothing falls through the cracks.
I am a beach girl. I’m not a native, but I consider Venice, California my adoptive home. I love to hike, ride my cruiser at the beach and practice yoga in my free time. I’ve been in Los Angeles for twelve years and I have a hard time imagining living anywhere else. But I do love to travel and explore. My passport is well-used and I make sure to set aside time for regular international travel. My most recent trip was to Australia and New Zealand. It was phenomenal.
I could go on. But I won’t. If you would like to know more or are interested in hiring me for a graphic design project, please contact me through the Contact box below or reach out to me on social media. Thank you.
